Anne Hathaway was born on November 12, 1982

She developed her craft as a child performer in theater, earning her stripes in several productions at the famed Paper Mill Playhouse (including "Gigi" with Gavin MacLeod and early stagings of the musical version of "Jane Eyre").

Anne Hathaway, first and only teenager admitted to the acting program at the award-winning The Barrow Group in New York. In 1998, was nominated for Outstanding Performance.

Rising young actress Anne Hathaway broke onto the scene with a starring role in "The Princess Diaries." In her second big starring role in "Ella Enchanted," Hathaway returns to the part of a reluctant princess though this time around she gets to blend a little action and a little singing and dancing into her character.

She co-starred in 2002's Nicholas Nickleby (based on the novel by Charles Dickens) and was then cast as the lead in 2004's Ella Enchanted, in which she sang a duet with pop star Jesse McCartney.

She was named one of People Magazine's 'Breakthrough Stars of 2001' and one of Teen People Magazine's 25 Hottest Stars Under 25 in its June 2002 issue.
