Francis Albert Sinatra was born in Hoboken, New Jersey On December 12, 1915.
He was He was the only child of Italian immigrants Anthony Martin and Natalie Della "Dolly".
In 1946, Sinatra signed a five-year film contract with M-G-M which diverted his primary focus away from music and toward acting. Just as on stage, Sinatra’s charisma came through on film and he went on to star in a variety of films that often featured his songs. The most successful of the early films was Anchors Aweigh with Gene Kelly in 1945 and On the Town in 1949.
One fateful day in June of 1939, former Benny Goodman sideman Harry James came to the Rustic Cabin and heard Sinatra singing; he immediately hired Sinatra for hisnew band, the Harry James Orchestra.
Sinatra's four wives included actresses Ava Gardner (1951-57) and Mia Farrow (1966-68). Gardner previously had been married to jazzman Artie Shaw, while Farrow was later married to Woody Allen.
