KylieMinogue was born on May 28, 1968, in Melbourne. In 1979, she began her acting career in the Australian TV drama series Skyways, eventually gaining a starring role in a children's series, The Henderson Kids, before achieving national fame in the five-days-a-week soap opera Neighbours. Around the time Minogue joined, Neighbours also started airing in the U.K.

Kylie Minogue, began her career as an actress in 1986 starring as Charlene in the popular soap 'Neighbours', fans were devistated when she and then real-life boyfriend Jason Donovan, decided to no longer appear on the soap.

She released her No:1 debut album 'Kylie' (which is also the second most successful debut album from the youngest artist second only to Britney Spears) in 1988 which got her a string of hits around the world, even her only US hit single. She had another UK number one when she duetted with then boyfriend Jason Donovan on Especially For You, her second most successful hit to date.

It sold over 7 million copies worldwide, with most sales occurring in Europe and Asia, and it contained six hit singles, including the biggest hit, 'I Should Be So Lucky'. The United States, where she was signed by Geffen Records, was the only major record market in which the album did not sell strongly, although 'The Loco-Motion' reached number three on the US Billboard Magazine Singles Chart.

Her follow up album, Enjoy Yourself (1989) was a success in the United Kingdom and Australia, and contained several hit singles, but it failed in the United States, causing Geffen Records to release her from her contract.

Although she's only managed one hit in the U.S. since her arrival as a singer in 1987, Kylie Minogue is both Australia and Europe's biggest selling female pop singer.
